Creative Courses for the Spring from dot-art, from 6 May

Various venues, Liverpool, 6 May – 29 July

Spring is finally here so to mark the start of days getting warmer and evenings getting brighter dot-art are sharing a fantastic programme of brand new art classes this spring.

Brush off the winter and take a look through our evening creative courses and weekend workshops and pick the one to get your artistic skills flowing or choose one as a gift for someone special! The fun, friendly courses for adults and children are open to everyone and take place in a range of great locations across the city.

NEW for this term at Sefton Park, in July we have an exciting Sunday workshop in Creative Garden Photography, led by Mark Reeves, who will help you use in-camera techniques to create unusual abstract photographs and landscapes in the beautiful surroundings of Sefton Park. Also in South Liverpool we have the return of our popular Sketching in the Palm House sessions, where you can spend a Sunday morning learning or brushing up on basic techniques to help you draw from observation, try different materials and express what you see through drawing.

NEW at Bluecoat this May, we have Creative Feltmaking, taking place over 3 Sundays, where you will learn the basics of feltmaking and develop your skills with new and exciting textiles. May also sees the return of the popular 10 week evening courses in Life Drawing, Beginners Painting (Acrylics) and Jewellery Making in Metal.

If you prefer weekends, in May they have a Drawing for Everyone course, held over 3 Sundays, in which expert tutor Roy Munday will give you all the skills you need to start, refresh or improve your drawing technique. We also have an Experimenting with Mixed Media Sunday workshop, in which you can try out a range of technique and media to create your own unique work of art and a Beginners Digital Photography Day, perfect for those who want to get their cameras off the auto setting.

Over at Hope Street Ltd, Roy Munday will once again lead a 10 week Watercolour for Beginners course. Watercolour is the most popular medium for people who take up art and this course is designed for both absolute beginners and those more advanced who are seeking to improve. We will also be continuing our 10 week Portrait Drawing course with artist Kathy Dereli. Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide exercises and tuition to help you improve your portrait drawing or help get you started.

At Faith Bebbington’s Studio, they have a Wood Carving for beginners course, led by Faith herself across 3 consecutive Sundays in June. This short course includes an introduction to wood carving, a look at the range of carving tools, how to select and choose your wood, different ways to finish the surface and finally, the creation of your own wood carving inspired by natural forms.

Following a very successful pilot over the winter, they will be returning to the Friends of Williamson Tunnels on Sundays in May and July for Sketching in the Tunnels, a unique opportunity for both beginners and experienced artists to spend a Sunday morning drawing and learning new skills in this fascinating location.

Finally, the dot-art Club for 7-11 years olds will be running in two six week blocks, starting 15th April and 3rd June. Every Sunday (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE FROM SATURDAYS) morning our young artists will be encouraged to develop their drawing skills and build a lifelong love of art!
