Model Image: fashion and photos from the 1950s

Lady Lever Art Gallery, Lower Road, Port Sunlight, Wirral, Merseyside, 20 October 2017 – March 2018

June Duncan (1924-2014) was a Liverpool-born dancer and model who, in the 1950s, became one of Britain’s top fashion models. June modelled clothes for all the major couture houses in London and Paris, and appeared regularly in the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair.

This exhibition highlights some of her best-known images, part of a recently-acquired collection of more than 90 photographs dating from the 1930s to the 1950s.

It also features beautiful 1950s evening dresses from National Museums Liverpool’s decorative arts collection, similar to some of those seen in the photographs.
