Shakespeare Now! exhibition, Central Library, William Brown Street, Liverpool City Centre, 4 June – 31 July
The World’s Only Contemporary Book Art Exhibition for Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary takes place in Liverpool’s wonderful Central Library, opening on Sat 4th June, and continuing until 31st July.
The exhibition includes installations, international artists, unique works, sculptural pieces, fine bindings and more, all with a Shakespearean theme.
Over 40 international artists are taking part. Intriguing work will travel from Australia, Russia, Netherlands, Germany, USA and Lithuania as well as the UK, with materials including handmade paper, driftwood, pebbles, textiles, cotton, seaglass and seaweed paper. Many of the works are for sale.
Adding further to the visual spectacle of the exhibition will be six huge Shakespeare figures made by students at Birmingham City University. The first year students were studying BA (Hons) Design for Theatre, Performance and Events. Handcrafted from paper and cardboard, the 6ft figures include Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet, Richard III, Caliban and Julius Caesar.
Free entry. The exhibition can be viewed at any time the Library is open.
